The New York Yankees acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins last season and he has been a great addition.

Chisholm was already an All-Star player when the Yankees added him, but he has been on another level since joining the Yankees. He had always been seen as a talented player, but playing for a winning team has unlocked another level.

On Friday, Jazz became the third player in franchise history to hit at least 30 home runs and steal at least 30 bases in a season. He is the first to do so in over 20 years. Chisholm took a subtle shot at the Marlins

“I always knew I could be that guy,” Chisholm said per The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. “I said it when I was younger, I believed I was a 40-40 player. I don’t want to use it as an excuse, but when you’re around the energy you’re around, you’re forced to be that way — not really forced — but it just happens where you have to fight through that.

“A lot of the years I got hurt just being reckless, just because I was fighting through that. Now that I’m in a place that I could be stable every day and know that I don’t have none of those things going on around me anymore, I can hang out and be all right. I’m calm every game. I don’t have to think about having an argument with somebody after the game or before the game, just trying to hide away from everybody. Anyone in here can call me or text me at any time.”

Chisholm has been vocal in the past about bad experiences in the Marlins clubhouse. He outlined how his play style and personality were sometimes seen as a distraction or problem in Miami.

That is not the case with the Yankees. He noted he wants to stay in New York and loves the energy the fans bring, per Kirschner. Chisholm has not only been a key player on the field, but his presence in the clubhouse has also been important.

Clearly, the toxic culture of the Marlins clubhouse was weighing on Chisholm, but that has not been the case in the Bronx.
