Chicago White Sox on the verge of another embarrasing finish to regular season | Sporting News

For the third straight season, and the fourth time in eight seasons, the Chicago White Sox are on the verge of losing 100+ games in a single season.

The White Sox dropped their sixth straight game on Wednesday, this time to the Baltimore Orioles. The White Sox are now 57-96. With nine games to go, the White Sox would need to go 6-3 to avoid the 100 losses.

The last time, before 2023, when the White Sox lost 100+ games was in 2018. Before then, it was 48 years prior, in 1970, when they dropped 106 games.

After scoring four runs in the first four games of the losing streak, the White Sox offense got going on Tuesday, scoring seven runs. The problem was, Baltimore scored 8.

On Wednesday, after giving up a run in the first inning and two more in the third inning, the White Sox could not catch up. Mike Tauchman hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to get the Southsiders on the scoreboard. That was all they could muster in the 3-1 loss.

Chicago takes Thursday off and then starts their final nine games. The White Sox host the Padres over the weekend, before going on the road to take on the New York Yankees for three, and then the Washington Nationals to finish the season.
