DeMarvion Overshown is aiming to return from injury for the Cowboys by Thanksgiving
The Dallas Cowboys escaped their Week 2 clash against the New York Giants with a thrilling 40-37 overtime victory. At the end of the day, getting the win was the team’s primary goal, but it’s clear there are some holes that need to be fixed on this team, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
The problem is that injuries are already hitting the Cowboys hard, as they were without several key players when they took on the Giants. One guy who was not on the field for this one is linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and when discussing his injury rehab, he recently revealed when he’s hoping to be back on the field for Dallas.
DeMarvion Overshown Sheds Light on Injury Rehab
Overshown’s career with Dallas has been plagued by injuries. After getting selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Overshown ended up suffering a torn ACL in the team’s second preseason contest, resulting in his season ending before it even really started. The former Texas Longhorns linebacker worked his way back from the injury, and he ended up being ready for the start of the 2024 campaign.
Once Overshown finally took the field, he immediately made an impact, racking up 90 tackles, five sacks, one interception (which he returned for a touchdown), one fumble forced, and four pass deflections in 13 games. Again, his season came to a premature end, as he tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in Week 14, resulting in another long and arduous rehab process.
In the wake of this serious injury, it was pretty clear that Overshown was not going to be ready to play at the start of the season. He has continually been working behind the scenes, though, and when discussing his ongoing injury rehab, Overshown revealed that he’s hoping to be back on the field for the Cowboys by Thanksgiving.
“I’m getting there,” Overshown said, per Tommy Yarrish of the team’s official website. “It’s definitely to a point where we’re getting the last clears from my surgeon, and now it’s just easing me back into playing football. The knee is healthy, I’m moving around fast, strong, now just being smart with the timing. I don’t want to say (Thanksgiving) is the target date, but I feel like I’ll be playing football before Thanksgiving with the team.”

With Micah Parsons no longer in town, the Cowboys need more help on defense than ever before. Overshown figures to play a big role in the linebacker room once he returns to the field, but Dallas isn’t going to rush him, given the severity of the injury he suffered. When he’s ready to play, the team will welcome him back into the fold, but the priority is Overshown’s health.
In the meantime, Damone Clark, Jack Sanborn, and Kenneth Murray Jr. will continue starting at linebacker for the Cowboys, but they are going to have to be better than they were in Week 2 if the team wants to win more games. Dallas will return to action in Week 3 with a clash against the winless Chicago Bears at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
