Braves bring back Luke Williams, Jake Fraley hits IL

The Atlanta Braves have selected infielder/pitcher Luke Williams from Triple-A and placed outfielder Jake Fraley on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain.

Williams spent most of the 2025 season on the Braves roster – appearing in 44 games, including six games on the mound – before being designated for assignment 10 days ago. That came on the heels of his own IL stint due to an oblique strain. Williams was not claimed and accepted his assignment to Triple-A.

Fraley was a waiver claim by Atlanta on August 19th from the Cincinnati Reds and saw action in nine games with the Braves, collecting seven hits in 24 plate appearances. He can be under team control for one more season via arbitration, should the Braves opt to bring him back as a reserve outfield option in 2026. The timing of his IL trip is retroactive to September 11th, so it is possible he could be activated with a handful of games left in the season.

Eli White will continue to serve as the team’s primary reserve outfielder.

As for Williams, he’s been atrocious offensively, with a .382 OPS but provides the team with a pinch-running option, defensive replacement at multiple positions and a viable mop-up relief arm. He has a 1.17 WHIP in six innings pitched this season.
