The Giants already started out as sloppy as they could’ve against the Commanders in Week 1. Russell Wilson couldn’t get anything going offensively, and the Giants only ended up with six points, losing in non-competitive fashion. Even though the Dallas Cowboys went down against the Eagles, fans are clinging to some hope for the fight they put up against the defending champs.
Now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is optimistic about the Giants giving fans what they want. Appearing on Get Up, Schefter seems to think Daboll could bench Russell Wilson for Jaxson Dart as early as halftime this Sunday.
“The fans want Jaxson Dart. They’re gonna get him at some point. We don’t know if it’s going to be at halftime of this game or after Week 2. But at some point, when there’s another loss or two, and Russell is struggling, Jaxson Dart is coming.”
Adam Schefter thinks the Giants could make a QB change against the Cowboys
Wilson went out and laid a dud against the Commanders, sparking plenty of fan chatter about turning to rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart. Yes, Wilson was bad in that game. But starting Dart would come with serious risks of its own, and the Giants’ offensive line didn’t give Wilson much of a chance.
There’s no doubt this would be a desperate move. Sure, Brian Daboll knows what he has on offense and doesn’t want to waste talent, but touting Wilson as the guy all offseason only to bench him would crush the Giants’ credibility. And with left tackle Andrew Thomas questionable for the Cowboys game, throwing Dart into a dumpster-fire situation wouldn’t be fair to him either.

If Daboll does take the leap of faith to call the Ole Miss product’s number, it would be a win for the Cowboys’ defense after they stymied en elite Eagles offense in the second half of Week 1. Dallas should have the confidence to take on a depleted OL and flimsy quarterback situation.
The Cowboys aren’t strangers to midseason quarterback changes. Dallas supporters might remember 2006, when Tony Romo replaced Drew Bledsoe – ironically, against the Giants – and never gave the job back. That worked out for Dallas.
It’s unclear if the Giants will find that kind of magic with Dart, but a meltdown against the Cowboys on Sunday could prompt Daboll to make an impulsive decision that could throw off Dart’s development.
