The Atlanta Braves have a difficult decision to make with manager Brian Snitker once the season ends.

It’s been a disappointing year for the Braves, and Snitker could choose to leave on his own terms or be fired. ESPN insider Buster Olney noted former Cubs manager David Ross could be a candidate for the job if it opens up.

“If Snitker steps down, the Braves job will be highly coveted, despite the incredibly disappointing 2025 showing, due to the core talent — Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, Chris Sale, dynamic rookie pitcher Hurston Waldrep, etc. — and the long-standing stability of the franchise,” Olney wrote. “Some of the names that rival execs speculated could step into the skipper role include: Walt Weiss, currently the Braves’ bench coach; former Cubs manager David Ross and MLB Network analyst Mark DeRosa, who both have history with the organization; and Skip Schumaker, the 2022 NL Manager of the Year who is currently working in the Rangers’ front office.”

Ross managed the Cubs from 2020-2023 and posted a 262-284 record (.480 win percentage) where he was let go after an 83-79 finish two years ago in favor of Craig Counsell.

Back in April, Ross was named the bullpen coach for Team USA at the upcoming World Baseball Classic, showing that he is still viewed as a coach in the baseball world despite not holding a coaching job since the Cubs moved on from him.

As Olney points out, Ross would have a strong core to work with in Atlanta in his first season plus whoever the team brings in via offseason trades and free agency. However, the former big leaguer may not be the best fit for a team that looks to contend next season as Ross only made the playoffs once in the shortened 2020 season.
