The White Sox are reportedly set to land a top prospect out of the Dominican Republic who was once linked to the Yankees.
MLB insider Francys Romero reports Chicago is expected to sign Braston Basker to a record $6 million bonus when the international signing period opens in January 15, 2030. Romero says Basker had a pre-agreement with New York, but that deal fell through just weeks ago.
Basker is listed as just 12 years old, which is why the White Sox are already looking to secure him five years before he’s eligible to sign. Under MLB rules, international players are not allowed to sign until they turn 16 or will turn 16 by September 1. If the reported $6 million figure holds, it would set a new record for an international signing bonus.
Basker is a 5-foot-7 shortstop, weighing in at 140 pounds. Many scouts consider a five-tool player, citing a knack for reading the game, a strong arm, and speed on the diamond.

A video from MLB reporter Hector Gomez of Basker taking batting practice turned heads due to his raw power. The young phenom is currently training with the Dominican Republic’s Cacon Academy.
Hype around a player this young always comes with risk, but the Dominican Republic has a proven history of producing MLB stars, including David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Juan Soto. Basker’s talent at such an early age has made him one of the most talked-about international prospects. If his development continues on track, he could emerge as a name to watch in the next decade.
