Home MLB Red Sox 2-For-1 Blockbuster Trade Idea Sees Ronald Acuña Jr. Land in Boston

Red Sox 2-For-1 Blockbuster Trade Idea Sees Ronald Acuña Jr. Land in Boston

MLB MrThanh · September 11, 2025 · Comments off

The Boston Red Sox have a solid group of young players, and could look to make a huge move to add a superstar and make a real run at the World Series in the coming years.

The Red Sox’s young core already has them in postseason contention. This offseason could be huge for the team. The Red Sox will have to figure out what happens with Alex Bregman’s contract, but they could be in the market for another superstar to round out their roster.

MLB Network recently floated the idea of the Atlanta Braves trading Ronald Acuña Jr. He could be the type of player who helps the Red Sox take the next step. BALLCAP Sports’ Jim Riley proposed this trade that would bring Acuña to the Red Sox:

The return for Acuña may seem light, but Riley mentioned that it is still an overpay for the Red Sox, according to Baseball Trade Values. The Red Sox outfield is already crowded, so it would make sense that one of their young outfielders would have to go in order to make this happen.

Riley’s proposal also sees Roman Anthony handling more designated hitter duties so that Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela and Acuña can man the outfield. Considering how good Acuña is, his contract is quite team-friendly for the next three years.

A group of Garrett Crochet, Anthony, Bregman and Acuña could help carry the Red Sox to a World Series. In addition to them, young players like Marcelo Mayer and Rafaela would be solid complementary pieces.
