Mike Vrabel Issues Concerning Terrell Williams Announcement Before Week 2

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel looks on during the first half against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium

The New England Patriots are preparing for their upcoming contest against the Miami Dolphins in Week 2. However, on Wednesday, head coach Mike Vrabel shared a concerning update regarding defensive coordinator Terrell Williams.

When Vrabel was hired as the Pats’ new head coach, he quickly tasked Williams, the former Detroit Lions defensive line coach and run game coordinator, to come be his defensive coordinator. However, in his first year with the team, Williams has dealt with several worrisome health issues.

During the spring, Williams missed time because of an unknown medical condition, and he also collapsed at one of the team’s training camp practices due to dehydration. Before the start of the season, Williams said he was ready to roll, and he led New England’s defense in their 20-13 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1.

However, it appears as if another health scare has flared up for Williams. According to Vrabel, he will be spending a few days away from the team as he undergoes some testing to see if his new health scare is related to what he was dealing with during the spring.

“Patriots coach Mike Vrabel tells reporters that DC Terrell Williams will be away from the team for a few days,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared in a post on X. “The hope is that it’s unrelated to his previous health situation, but they want to run tests.”

When Williams missed time during the spring, inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr handled his responsibilities. If Williams is still not with the team on Sunday, Kuhr would be a top candidate to fill in for him.

New England is obviously hoping for the best for Williams, but they will continue to get ready for their second game of the season. The Patriots will hit the road for the first time this season, with their clash against the Dolphins scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
