Packers’ Jordan Love injury concern gets immediate pushback from Green Bay QB

Packers’ Jordan Love injury concern gets immediate pushback from Green Bay QB originally appeared on The Sporting News

Jordan Love had a bit of a weird August. Midway through, he came up with a left thumb injury, and it meant he’d be out for the remainder of the preseason.

That created at least some questions and concerns about how Love would perform when he took the Lambeau Field stage for Week 1, Green Bay Packers hosting the Detroit Lions.

The Packers’ star QB alleviated those worries very quickly.

“Anyone worried that Jordan Love would come out of the gates slowly after missing so much practice time, following his left thumb injury, had their concerns eased right away,” wrote ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “He completed 5 of 7 passes with a pair of touchdowns on throws with at least 15 air yards in the first half, according to ESPN Research. The biggest play was a 48-yard deep ball to Romeo Doubs in the second quarter that set up a 19-yard scoring toss to Jayden Reed.”

The Packers cruised past the Lions in a game that never felt all that close, one that made quite the early-season NFC North statement.

It was also a much better Week 1 for Love than last season.

The Packers opened 2024 in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles. In the closing stages of the game, Love sustained a painful knee injury that forced an extended absence.

He came back later in the season and was solid, but there was always a little concern the rest of the way about Love moving or getting hit.

To come out and have a dominant opening game performance, with a fast start, had to feel ideal for Love and the Packers. And now there’s plenty more to do.
