The San Francisco 49ers are 1-0.
It wasn’t without turbulence, but the 49ers managed to find the win column with a 17-13 triumph at Seattle to open the 2025 NFL season. Plus, topping a division rival is always a great thing no matter how you slice it.

As San Francisco enjoys this one and then turns its attention toward a trip to the New Orleans Saints next Sunday, let’s take a look back at some of the best performances from the 49ers in their season opener.
Brock Purdy
It wasn’t smooth sailing by any means for the now big-money, franchise quarterback. But, down several key weapons and after a pair of poor interceptions, Brock Purdy managed to direct the 49ers on a seven-play, 68-yard touchdown drive.
That’s what franchise signal-callers are supposed to do. Go win close games against division rivals. Purdy checked that box in the opener. The 6-foot-1 quarterback completed 26-of-35 passes for 277 yards with a pair of touchdown passes.

Ricky Pearsall
San Francisco is hoping for big things from its 2024 first-round NFL draft choice. On Sunday, the 49ers got that. Ricky Pearsall hauled in four grabs for 108 yards, including a big 45-yard grab on the game-winning drive.
Christian McCaffrey
The 49ers desperately missed their star running back a season ago. Christian McCaffrey was back healthy to open 2025 and it showed.
McCaffrey finished with 22 carries for 69 yards, including a long of 13. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound back also hauled in nine passes for 73 yards.
Having McCaffrey around just opens so much else up. 49ers fans are thrilled to have their superstar, workhorse running back healthy and back in the fold.

Jake Tonges
No Sunday list would be complete without a tip of the cap to the man that caught the game-winner. A third-year pro out of Cal, Tonges hauled in his first career NFL catches on Sunday.
Of course, it was the 4-yard game-winner that fans will remember from the 49ers’ third-stringer. But, Tonges finished with three catches for 15 yards.
What a story.
Nick Bosa
The 49ers defensive superstar had himself a great start to 2025. Nick Bosa notched six tackles, three tackles for loss. That included the game-sealing, strip-sack fumble of Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.
Dee Winters
49ers linebacker Dee Winters enjoyed a great start to the 2025 campaign as well. Winters finished with six tackles and a pair of tackles for loss. His presence was felt all afternoon long, which is a great sign for what lies ahead for San Francisco.

Robert Saleh
Fitting in a way that Robert Saleh’s defense got to close out the season-opening victory for the 49ers. In his return to the bay, 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh came up with the game-winning stop and limited Seattle to just three points after halftime.
Saleh and San Francisco are working in a number of new faces. In its opener, the 49ers surrendered just 230 yards of total offense to Seattle.
Time and again in its opener, the 49ers’ offense and special teams put San Francisco’s defense in some unfavorable spots in terms of field position and just the momentum of the game. The 49ers’ defense answered the bell for the most part.
