The Steelers kick off their 2025 season on Sunday, Sept. 7 with a road matchup against the New York Jets, former employer of key offseason addition quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old is installed as Pittsburgh’s starter under center after a two-year stint with the Jets filled with more downs than ups, but Rodgers’ arm talent remains undisputed and is now an asset for coach Mike Tomlin and his staff.

The Steelers also traded former No. 1 wide receiver George Pickens and replaced him with the addition of veteran D.K. Metcalf as part of a shake-up at the skill positions. Pittsburgh also moved on from former first-round running back Najee Harris, trade star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins for top cornerback Jalen Ramsey, added another veteran corner in Darius Slay, and picked defensive lineman Derrick Harmon in the first round (No. 22 overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Jets move forward from the disastrous Aaron Rodgers experiment that ultimately cost coach Robert Saleh his job. Now, the team pivots and brings its offense into the future behind free agent dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields to a backfield that also includes Breece Hall and Braelon Allen and a passing game highlighted by No. 1 receiver Garrett Wilson.

A defense led by massive tackle Quinnen Williams and lockdown corner Sauce Gardner should once again be formidable for first-year coach Aaron Glenn, after the group ranked No. 3 in total defense and No. 4 against the pass in 2024.

The Steelers and Jets are set for a 1 p.m. ET start on CBS. Live streams are available from DirecTV (free trial) and FuboTV (low intro rate).

The game will also stream on Paramount+.
