APPLETON — Despite reports about the severity of his back injury, Micah Parsons will take the field Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the star pass rusher — acquired by the Green Bay Packers in a blockbuster trade — is expected to be activated for the NFC North showdown at Lambeau Field.
Parsons is dealing with a sprain in the L4-L5 facet joint of his back, and the Packers listed their newest addition as questionable for the season opener. He was also a limited participant in practice throughout the week.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that while plans are for Parsons to play, he will not be on the field for every down as “the Packers still are figuring out how much to play him.”
This game will mark Parsons’ first game against the Lions since Dec. 30, 2023, when his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, edged Detroit 20-19 in a controversial finish in Arlington.
In two career games against the Lions — the other in 2022, also with the Cowboys — Parsons has been on the winning side. Across those matchups, he’s totaled 10 solo tackles and two sacks.
Even with limited snaps, the All-Pro pass rusher is someone the Lions must account for. Detroit’s revamped offensive line, anchored by Graham Glasgow and rookie center Tate Ratledge, will be tested.
The Lions and Packers are scheduled to kick off at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at Lambeau Field on CBS.
