“He’s supposed to run tomorrow so we’ll know tomorrow night,” said manager Alex Cora. “He’s going to run for the first time since Baltimore,” Cora said (via MassLive).

Abreu injured his hamstring on August 21st, and has been out since then. He’s a major contributor to the Sox on both sides of the ball. He’s one of the best defensive right fielders in baseball, and he’s slashing .253/.325/.486/.811 with 22 home runs.

With the Sox missing Roman Anthony, who has become the focal point of their offense, getting Abreu back would be crucial for the Sox’ success. With him, the Sox outfield goes back to being arguably the best in the MLB, and they get another slugger to help drive in runs, which has been a bane of theirs lately.

Abreu won’t be doing a rehab stint, so he may be back for the home series against the New York Yankees. Hopefully he does, as they need to beat their rivals to make sure they stay in the Wild Card race.
