Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are both busy people, and that’s even more the case now that Kelce is on the field with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs are starting their season with pizazz and playing a high-profile game on Friday, September 5, in São Paulo, Brazil, at Corinthians Arena against coach Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. The entire world is watching their first game, especially since it takes place in Brazil, and the NFL is doing everything they can to draw interest to American football on an international level.
For players like Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, playing in such a high-profile game doesn’t make them nervous. They’re very used to the spotlight, and both players are in the public eye all the time. For Kelce, that’s become even more the reality now that he’s engaged to Swift. For the past two years that they’ve been dating, they’ve been in the media constantly, and they’re taking it in stride.
Not only is this a big weekend in sports, since it’s the start of the NFL’s regular season, but it’s a big weekend in music. That’s because the MTV VMAs are on Sunday, September 7, and it’s an event that draws plenty of the biggest names in music spanning the genres. Even if MTV doesn’t play music videos anymore, they’re still very much a part of the fabric of the music world.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift Decide on Attendance to Major Event
So, will Kelce and Swift attend the MTV VMAs together following the Chiefs opener, now that they’re engaged? The answer is no. According to multiple reports, both of them will skip the VMAs this year.
The reason Kelce isn’t attending the awards show is because he’s in Brazil for the opening game, and even if he’s home in time, he’s likely going to want to take it easy. For Swift, she’s only up for one award this year and will likely be up for several next year, when her new album is out, as Elle notes, citing that as a reason to not attend.
Last year, Swift won even trophies. Her single “Fortnight,” which features Post Malone, won Video of the Year, Song of the Summer, Best Collaboration, Best Editing and Best Direction. Swift also took home awards for Artist of the Year and Best Pop Artist.
Looking Back on Taylor Swift’s Podcast Appearance on ‘New Heights’
The world was watching as Taylor Swift appeared as the special guest on Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and his brother Jason Kelce’s podcast, the “New Heights” podcast on Wednesday, August 13. Swift was breaking the news on the show that her new album is on the way, which will mark her 12th and be named “Life of a Showgirl.”
Swift and the Kelce brothers made history on the show. According to streaming numbers on YouTube during the show, more than 1.3 million people were watching the episode debut live.
On the podcast, Swift talked about everything from her Eras Tour to her newfound enjoyment for football to her obsession with baking. She’s actually a big baker and has been experimenting with different sourdough bread recipes.
At the time, nobody knew that these two would soon be engaged. But, Kelce proposed just a few weeks later.
