Patrick Mahomes took the NFL by storm … eventually. The Texas Tech product was a surprising first-round selection of the Chiefs in 2017 as he was drafted as the heir apparent to veteran Kansas City QB Alex Smith, but he was seen as a reach when selected 10th overall.

Mahomes sat behind Smith for a year, only debuting in the final week of the regular season. He finished that game with 284 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. In his first year as the starter, Mahomes led Kansas City to the AFC championship game, though it resulted in a loss to the Patriots. He then led a playoff run in 2019 that culminated in the Chiefs’ victory over the 49ers in the Super Bowl, Kansas City’s first Lombardi Trophy since 1969.

Mahomes developed into one of the best quarterbacks not only in the league but also in NFL history. He and Kansas City won three Super Bowls in his first six years as the starting quarterback. Due to his development, he was handsomely compensated by the Chiefs’ front office and was once the highest-paid quarterback in league history. Even though he has been dethroned, his career earnings and endorsements have allowed him to undertake a variety of business ventures.

Here’s more on Mahomes’ career earnings.
