With Chase Young nursing a calf injury, the New Orleans Saints have added another pass rusher.
The Saints signed defensive end Garrett Nelson to the practice squad Thursday and released quarterback Hunter Dekkers from it, the team announced. Nelson, who is 6-foot-3 and 249 pounds, spent the summer with the Denver Broncos after a UFL stint with the San Antonio Brahmas.
Nelson went undrafted out of Nebraska in 2023. In four years for the Cornhuskers, he recorded 167 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.
Nelson has never appeared in a regular-season game, but he had preseason stints with the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals in 2023.
The Saints added Nelson after Young suffered a calf injury during Wednesday’s practice. He did not practice Thursday.
