Let the national “prospect analysts” say whatever they want about the Braves farm system, they have no shortage of arms.
JR Ritchie is doing everything he can to earn a promotion to the majors before the end of the season. Whether the Braves give him a crack in the final month remains to be seen, but he’ll be heard from in the near future. 19-year-old Cam Caminiti is a consensus top 100 prospect and was ranked as high as 50, according to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden.
Didier Fuentes experienced a cup of coffee in the majors. It didn’t go well, but he’s 20-years-old and already finding success in AAA Gwinnett. That’s a fantastic sign for his future.
Owen Murphy, Garrett Baumann, Blake Burkhalter, Jhancarlos Lara, and Lucas Braun are several other intriguing arms nearing the majors, with the latter getting a promotion to Gwinnett today.
RHP Lucas Braun, ranked the @Braves’ No. 13 prospect by @MLBPipeline, has joined the @GoStripers for his Triple-A debut. He will be the 80th player to appear in a game for Gwinnett this season when he makes his first appearance (16th to make Triple-A debut). https://t.co/GGeiCmojlk

Lucas Braun has spent all of this season in AA Columbus, recording a 3.99 ERA over 130.2 innings. He’s got a more than solid strikeout rate, and even more encouraging, he rarely issues free passes, surrendering just over two walks per nine innings.
All of these arms aren’t going to become the next Max Fried. Some will be featured at the back of the rotation, others will be moved to the bullpen, and some will flame out and never be heard from again. However, the Braves have hit at an absurd rate in recent years. It’s a testament to their developmental system, especially when it comes to pitchers. Atlanta’s pitching staff could be in for a major reload in the near future.
