New York Yankees slugger Jazz Chisholm Jr. recorded his 500th career hit on Tuesday night vs. the Houston Astros at Daikin Park—and he did so in style.

Chisholm pulled a sinker to right field from Astros starter Framber Valdez in the second inning, marking his 27th home run of the year.

It took the 27-year-old lefty until his sixth Major League season to reach the milestone. He made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins in 2020 but originally signed as an international free agent from the Bahamas in 2015 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Chisholm makes history

Chisholm, a two-time All-Star, is batting .242/.342/.497 over 106 games during his first full season with the Yankees. He’s recorded 100+ hits twice in his career, notching 115 in 2021 and a career-high 144 in 2024.

Chisholm spent the first four-and-a-half seasons of his career with the Marlins, and he was traded to the Yankees at the 2024 Trade Deadline. 131 of his 500 hits have come in New York.

The Yankees are currently fighting for the AL East title with the Boston Red Sox (78-62) and Toronto Blue Jays (80-59). New York hasn’t led the division since July 2 but entered Tuesday just 2.5 games behind first-place Toronto.

With October quickly approaching, Chisholm will hope to have a better postseason than last year’s—when he slashed .182/.250/.309 over 14 games as New York fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. If the Yankees want to make another deep playoff run, they’ll need Chisholm to be at his best.
