The Knights won their first two games in Nashville against the Sounds (72-58) this week, but they ran out of steam and lost the last four.

Outfielder Dominic Fletcher, 27, gave the Knights a major spark, going 7-for-24 with a homer, a triple, two walks, and a stolen base in his only attempt. Fletcher also picked up seven RBIs, which comfortably led the team. Fletcher has been a reliable source of value for the Knights, posting a .263/.319/.459 slash line in 101 games, all with Charlotte. Fletcher has also provided solid defense in center field, where most of his playing time has taken place in 2025.

Would you believe it? The Birmingham Barons actually lost a series. I was not sure we would ever see that again. Birmingham’s most recent series loss was against the Lookouts from July 1-6, so it has been a while. This week, the Smokies (60-64) broke the streak, but the Barons are on their way to the postseason regardless.

Right fielder Wilfred Veras, 22, was very difficult for opposing pitchers to keep off base. Veras went 10-for-23 with a triple, a double, and a walk. In addition, Veras collected eight RBIs, while the next-highest total was two (done by three players). This has not been a season to remember for Veras, who has taken a step back. After slashing .267/.319/.424 (118 wRC+) in 128 games in Double-A last year, Veras is slashing .217/.296/.334 (87 wRC+) in 100 games this season. H0wever, Veras made a stride in the right direction against the Smokies.

The pitching staff also had quite a few strong performances to help the Barons remain competitive in this series. Riley Gowens, Tyler Schweitzer, Shane Murphy, and Hagen Smith all performed admirably during their starts.

This team has caught some fire, as the Dash have won nine of their last 12 games. The Dash went on the road and took four out of six against Rome (54-68) to bring themselves nearly up to .500 in the second half.

Caleb Bonemer, 19, was promoted to High-A at the end of last week, and he did not let up at the higher level. After Bonemer incredibly won five weekly awards in his last seven weeks in Kannapolis, he is 1-for-1 in Winston-Salem. This week, Bonemer went 6-for-18 with two homers, a triple, two doubles, four walks, and a stolen base in his only attempt. This big week resulted in a 1.344 OPS, and most of his time on defense occurred at the third base position, which he defended solidly.

It is getting difficult to find new words to describe Bonemer’s excellence this season. Bonemer slashed .281/.400/.458 (147 wRC+) while mostly playing shortstop in Kannapolis — and in his first week in Winston-Salem, Bonemer was even more dominant.

Starting pitcher Christian Oppor, 21, made two starts, and he was fantastic in both of them. In total, Oppor pitched nine shutout innings, and he struck out 11 while only allowing five hits along the way. Oppor posted a 2.42 ERA in 22 1/3 innings in Kannapolis before getting promoted in May, and after this week, his ERA is down to 3.43 in 60 1/3 with the Dash.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers

The Cannon Ballers finished the month strong, collecting five victories in six games against Salem (52-72).

First baseman Anthony DePino, 22, was a major reason for the Cannon Ballers’ big week. DePino finished 8-for-20 with a homer, three doubles, and two stolen bases without getting caught. DePino also racked up seven RBIs, as he was productive with runners on base. The White Sox drafted DePino in the seventh round this summer, and he is wasting no time before making an impact. DePino has been reliable, posting a .250/.384/.338 slash line, displaying an ability to reach base during his first 80 professional at-bats.
