Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer issued a strong message after Micah Parsons was traded to the Packers
The Green Bay Packers blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys has sent shockwaves throughout the NFL world on a multitude of levels.
This move firmly puts the Packers in contention in the NFC this season. This trade definitely diminishes the chances the Cowboys will make a deep push into the postseason in 2025. And this makes watching exactly what kind of impact Micah Parsons has on the field for Green Bay must-see TV this season.
The Athletic Names Micah Parsons One of the Most Intriguing Players in the League Entering 2025 NFL Season
Mike Jones of The Athletic is just as fascinated with the ripple effect created by Packers-Cowboys trade as the rest of us, which is why he named Parsons one of the top 25 most intriguing players in the NFL entering the season.
“After a standoff with Jerry Jones that dragged on throughout the offseason, training camp and the preseason, Parsons finally got paid … by the Green Bay Packers,” wrote Jones. “Exactly one week before Dallas was slated to kick off the season in Philadelphia, the Cowboys traded their All-Pro pass rusher to Green Bay, which then awarded Parsons a four-year, $188 million contract, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The Packers already had the look of a legit NFC contender, but adding Parsons — one of only three players in the league to record 12-plus sacks in four of the last five seasons — should further elevate Matt LaFleur’s squad.”
Parsons wasn’t at the stage of his career that Trey Hendrickson is at. Parsons has been an All-Pro caliber player from the moment he stepped on an NFL field. His floor of 12+ sacks a year since he entered the NFL back in 2021 is the type of stuff you see on a Hall of Fame resume.
At the age of 26, one could argue that Parsons’ best days on a football field are still ahead of him.
What Kind of Impact Will Micah Parsons Have for the Green Bay Packers in 2025?
Speaking of those days on the football field, in less than one week, Parsons will be on a football field wearing a Packers uniform.
Bill Barnwell of ESPN compared the idea of trading Parsons in his prime to another team in the same conference to that of the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this calendar year.
“Like Doncic, Parsons is the sort of young superstar at a critical position who isn’t supposed to ever hit the market,” wrote Barnwell. “Organizations pray that they’ll land someone as impactful in the draft as Parsons. Even while missing four games last season with a high ankle sprain, the Penn State product became the second player in NFL history to rack up 12 or more sacks in each of his first four seasons. The only other one to do that is another player Packers fans came to love: Reggie White.”
The Packers’ defense was a solid unit in 2024 with Rashan Gary as the team’s best pass rusher. Adding Parsons into the mix could elevate a quality unit into an elite one in 2025.
