Surprise Chiefs Coach Could Be on the Way Out of Kansas City

The Chiefs have one of the best coaching staffs in the league and one NFL insider speculated that a surprise coach could be on his way out this offseason.

Quarterbacks coach David Girardi could soon become a hot commodity around the league. In his seventh year with Kansas City and second at his post, Girardi has learned from some of the top coaches in the NFL and could soon find himself with a promotion, whether in this organization or another.

According to Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated, Girardi is a name to watch moving forward.

Girardi joined the organization in 2018 as an offensive quality control course. He’s won three Super Bowls with the Chiefs and grown into an excellent quarterbacks coach. We’ve seen numerous examples of people jumping from that position to offensive coordinator elsewhere, so perhaps Girardi could be the next example.

“A former college QB,” Orr writes. “David Girardi has been with the Chiefs since 2018, rising up through Andy Reid’s staff from quality control coach to Patrick Mahomes’s position coach.”

It’s worth noting that Girardi is identified in a section that Orr describes as candidates who are “impressing very early on in their career, or a position coach or coordinator who has been peaking of late.”

Girardi likely wouldn’t spurn Kansas City for another opportunity this offseason, though a three-peat could change things. At least a half-dozen teams will be overhauling their coaching staffs, so Girardi might become a popular name if the season continues on this trend.

He’s been a valuable part of the Chiefs’ coaching staff. Here’s hoping he’ll stick around for at least a couple of more years.
