When I first encountered the picture pleading for assistance, my heart broke. The dog in the photograph appeared utterly miserable, with an enormous belly resembling a wheel and struggling to breathe.

He seemed to be hiding beneath a tree, trying to escape the harsh sunlight. It was evident that this dog was in pain and urgently needed help.

As I looked at the picture, a wave of helplessness washed over me. He was alone, deserted, and searching for food while suffering from a severe medical condition.

This dog had been residing at Kaohsiung Port for what seemed like an eternity. His heartbreaking condition, marked by a swollen abdomen, told a story of neglect.

Not only was the size of his stomach distressing, but his labored breathing was equally alarming.

Exhausted and frail, the poor dog sought relief whenever the sun’s heat became unbearable, hiding under trees or any available shelter to avoid the scorching rays that intensified his suffering.

His existence seemed to be a relentless fight for survival.

Thankfully, the plea for help did not go unheard, and a rescue was launched promptly. The dog, now named Hong Kong, was swiftly taken to a veterinarian.

There, it was discovered that he had a massive accumulation of fluid in his abdomen, a condition known as ascites. The veterinary team immediately began draining the excess fluid from his body.

In an incredible operation, they removed 9,000 milliliters of fluid, which had impaired his breathing and burdened his movement.

The challenging procedure was successful, and Hong Kong began to feel relief, breathing easily and moving without the heavy weight that had made every step a battle.

Hong Kong’s recovery was nothing short of miraculous. The once-struggling dog, who roamed the streets everyday battling for survival, now embarked on a journey to a healthier and happier life.

His rescue symbolized a fresh start. No longer did he face the loneliness of the streets or endure his suffering in isolation. With proper care and attention, Hong Kong gradually regained his strength.

Surrounded by love and comfort, his previously sorrowful eyes began to sparkle with gratitude and happiness.

Today, Hong Kong is cared for by a devoted individual committed to ensuring his safety, health, and well-being. He no longer has to worry about finding his next meal or seeking refuge from the harsh environment.

His new life is filled with warmth and affection in a loving home where he can finally unwind and experience the companionship he desperately needed.
