“Despite nearly three years of waiting, she remains full of love and joy.”
When Deja arrived at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples in 2022, she was already on her second shelter. She came from Gulf Coast Humane, where she failed to find a home, and her new shelter friends were determined to turn her luck around.
After getting to know her, her new friends couldn’t imagine it would be hard to find Deja her perfect match — but years later, the senior pup is still at the shelter.

“Despite nearly three years of waiting, she remains full of love and joy, always eager to meet new human friends,” Patrizia Vila, events and outreach coordinator at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples, told The Dodo.
Unfortunately, sweet Deja keeps getting overlooked by potential adopters. Curled up in her kennel, she continues to wait for someone to notice her, and no one can understand why it’s taking so long.
“She can be reserved at first, but once she trusts you, she’s goofy, energetic and a total love bug,” Stephanie Lewis, COO of Patty Baker Humane Society Naples, told The Dodo. “While she does well in the shelter, her true personality shines when she’s around people.”

Even though she’s a senior pittie, Deja still has so much love left to give. She just wants to spend the rest of her days hanging out in a safe, comfortable home with people who love her. It’s really not much to ask.

“Her dream home would be with a loving family, in a house with a yard, where she could be their TV-watching buddy one moment and their wrestling partner the next,” Lewis said. “She’d thrive as the only dog in the home so she can soak up all the love and attention.”

Deja’s perfect home is out there somewhere. It’s taking a while to find it, but when it finally arrives, the wait will have been worth it.
