Cowboys eye shocking reunion with player fans thought was long gone

Zion Childress Merchandise – Kentucky Branded

The Dallas Cowboys didn’t do anything overly shocking with their 53-man roster and practice squad, though it was a bit disappointing that undrafted rookie Zion Childress got waived on Wednesday after he made the initial 53 to clear room for a puzzling waiver claim.

That said, the practice squad remains very fluid. The bones of it are set in stone, but the Cowboys reportedly want Childress back if he clears waivers. They might have to jettison another player to make that happen, though, because another player is seemingly on the way.

Per Cowboys team reporter Nicole Hutchinson, former defensive end Isaiah Land (!) is expected to sign with Dallas’ practice squad. Hutchinson revealed that Land will be on a flight to Dallas on Thursday to seemingly finalize a return to the franchise.

Cowboys eye reunion with former camp standout Isaiah Land

How about that?

The Micah Parsons situation has really sucked the air out of the season, which starts in just seven days, so Cowboys fans are desperate for anything to hold onto. Reuniting with Land more than fits that bill as he was a fan favorite in training camp two years ago after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Florida A&M.

Land played well enough to make the roster, but Dallas waived him during roster cuts and he was swiftly claimed by the Colts. Cowboys fans thought that was a grievous mistake, but Land never caught on with Indianapolis.

While Land appeared in 17 games the last two seasons, he played just 109 defensive snaps and never played more than 16 snaps in a game.

Despite that, he tore it up in Colts camp and the preseason this summer. So much so that Zach Hicks of the Locked On Colts podcast called Land a “massive standout” in preseason and a “rock solid” run defender off the edge.

That sounds a lot like the Land that won over Cowboys fans two years ago. While getting him back on the practice squad won’t make or break the season, he gives Dallas more insurance in an EDGE room that currently is without Micah Parsons and has Dante Fowler and Sam Williams on expiring deals.
