Dodgers Injury Updates: Freddie Freeman, Hyeseong Kim, Max Muncy, More

Just when it looked like the Los Angeles Dodgers were getting healthier, they were bit by the injury bug once again.

Freddie Freeman and Alex Call are the latest Dodgers who were forced to miss a game due to injury. Alex Vesia is the latest Dodger to go on the injured list.

None of the three injuries appear to be serious, though, and the Dodgers are also expecting a few reinforcements to come off the IL next week. Here’s the latest update on some key injured Dodgers who appear closest to a return with September call ups nearing.

Freddie Freeman Injury Update

Freeman missed Wednesday’s game with what manager Dave Roberts called a “stinger” in his neck area. Roberts expressed optimism Freeman would return for Friday’s series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“It’s something he’s dealt with before,” Roberts said ahead of Wednesday’s game. “Played through worse, he said. But we just felt to be safe, to not to play him tonight.”

Hyeseong Kim Injury Update

Kim is currently on a rehab assignment and appears likely to rejoin the team on Sept. 1 when rosters expand to 28.

Kim played some left field during his rehab assignment, but it remains to be seen if he’s an option there at the big league level.

“Obviously we know Hyeseong can play second base,” Roberts said of Kim playing in left on his rehab assignment. “We know he can play shortstop. So just seeing him out in left field, I think that it just potentially gives us a little bit more options.”

Max Muncy Injury Update

Muncy hasn’t gone on a rehab assignment yet, but took batting practice and did defensive drills on the field Wednesday.

He remains on track to return sometime next week during the team’s road trip in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Michael Kopech Injury Update

Kopech officially became eligible to come off the 60-day IL on Wednesday, and has been on a rehab assignment. He will likely be the team’s other Sept. 1 call up alongside Kim.

Alex Call Injury Update

Call injured the SI joint in his back on Tuesday and didn’t play Wednesday. Roberts said the team is hoping he’s able to avoid a stint on the IL, but they’ll know more in the coming days. He’s currently considered day to day.
