Red Sox’s Garrett Crochet Poised to Steal Cy Young Crown — Analyst’s Bold Claim Shakes Up Race Against Skubal’s Reign

MLB analyst believes Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet has a "legit chance" to overtake top contender for Cy Young - Yahoo Sports

The Boston Red Sox’ ace Garrett Crochet is having an amazing season, proving that he was the main thing the Sox needed to get back into the playoff picture. Now, he’s running his own race for the Cy Young award, where he sits in second place.

However, some critics believe Crochet still has a chance at overtaking his competition in Detroit Tigers’ ace Tarik Skubal. MLB analyst Mark DeRosa is one of those critics, as he believes Crochet has a legit chance.

“[Skubal] had him in pretty everything; couple more punch outs, the ERA is just a smidge better, but it’s gonna go down to the wire, it’s gonna go back and forth, [Garrett] Crochet has a legit chance to overtake him after last night,” DeRosa stated.

As of today, Skubal has 11 wins, a 2.28 ERA with 166 innings pitched, 212 strikeouts, a WHIP of 0.87, and a WAR of 5.8. Crochet on the other hand has 14 wins, a 2.38 ERA with 166.1 innings pitched, 207 strikeouts, a WHIP of 1.06, and a WAR of 5.2.

Could Crochet catch up to Skubal? It’s a definite possibility. The Red Sox have one of the strongest schedules in the MLB for the remaining season, but Crochet has proven that he doesn’t care how good a team is, he’s still going to dominate.

As for Skubal, the Tigers’ strength of schedule is one of the weakest in the MLB. This means he’ll have multiple times to clearly dominate the opposing teams.

So, it really comes down to if Skubal has some really bad games against weak teams, and Crochet needs to not have any against strong teams. So while it might not be easy, there still is a chance for Crochet to walk home with the Cy Young.
