CONFIRM: Orioles predicted to replace Brandon Hyde with ‘up-and-coming’ manager, 3-time All-Star

The Baltimore Orioles find themselves in a similar situation to the Rockies and Pirates as they search for their next manager.

With a talented, youthful core poised to become stars in MLB for years to come, the future remains bright. However, this season has been nothing short of a disappointment.

The Orioles had one of the most underwhelming starts in the league—and arguably the most disappointing in all of baseball.

“There is no bigger disappointment through this season’s first half than the Orioles, and it probably isn’t even close,” ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez wrote.

The Orioles made a swift decision to move on from manager Brandon Hyde, parting ways with him in May after a sluggish start.

While Hyde had helped guide the Orioles through their rebuild and into the postseason in recent years, the front office clearly felt it was time for a change.

“The Baltimore Orioles fired manager Brandon Hyde on Saturday, hoping a new leader can spark a turnaround of the most disappointing team in Major League Baseball.

Hyde, who had managed the Orioles through the end of their rebuild and helped lead them to the past two postseasons, oversaw an underwhelming start. The Orioles fell to 15-29,” ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote.
Now, the Orioles must make the right hire to lead their young roster forward. One potential candidate is former MLB All-Star Grady Sizemore, though he has no formal managerial experience.“The former Major League All-Star made his return to the big leagues as a bench coach with the Chicago White Sox in 2024, and by the end of the season, Sizemore was the interim manager of the ballclub.

While he was passed over for the full-time managerial role, the White Sox named him Offensive Coordinator for 2025, and he is considered to be an up-and-coming manager across baseball.
Sizemore’s ability to connect with players based on his MLB experience may be crucial to him having success in the role,” foxbaltimore.com’s Cale Ahearn wrote.

Hiring Sizemore would be an interesting move, to say the least. With no full-time managerial experience, it could go very well—or very badly.

Sizemore had a highly successful playing career, winning multiple awards, and that success could potentially translate into a managerial role.

Still, the Orioles must be cautious. With such a promising young roster, hiring the wrong manager could derail everything they’ve worked to build.
