It’s the wedding bells heard around the world.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are tying the knot — and Kansas Citians say they’re excited for the next chapter in the pop star and football player’s “Love Story.” The couple announced their engagement on Tuesday through an Instagram post that reached 16 million likes within three hours.

It’s already created a frenzy of attention online, from celebrity shoutouts to estimations of the large diamond ring’s cost.

The Grammy Award winner and Superbowl champion began dating around two years ago.

Swift first caught Kelce’s eye at her July 8, 2023, Kansas City stop on her Eras Tour. Later, Kelce said he had hoped to give her a friendship bracelet with his number on it after the show.

And now, fans know the answer to whether Kelce will “marry, kiss or kill” Swift, as she sang in one of her songs about Kelce called “So High School.”

The Star spoke to Kansas Citians in a few coffee shops in the Crossroads Tuesday afternoon who expressed their enthusiasm about the news, both for what it means for the couple and what it means for the city that started it all.

‘A pivotal moment’ Kindra Vickers, a fan of Swift since her early country music days, said she has been following Swift and Kelce’s relationship and is “so excited for them.”

“It was just the most beautiful, ‘You Belong With Me’ type of engagement,” Vickers said. As someone who works in public relations, Vickers said she can already anticipate the work of Swift’s publicist to prevent any leaks to a future Vogue cover full of wedding photos.

Vickers also addressed the “haters,” declaring the couple’s love real. “If you think that this is also a PR stunt, just watch the interview with them together,” she said.

“Look at the love in their eyes, and get over it.” Chloe Rothery agreed with Vickers and said she thinks Kelce seems proud to be with Swift.

To Rothery, the two are “endgame,” she said, adding that the engagement was “life changing.” “I teared up a little bit — had to call my mom, my sister, my friends,” Rothery said.

“It was definitely a pivotal moment in my life.” Chiefs Kingdom wedding? Like other Swifties and Chiefs fans, Rothery said she’s hopeful that the couple’s marriage will keep Swift tied to Kansas City.

“I would love to say she’s going to get married in Kansas City and her kids will go to school here and they’ll live happily ever after,” Rothery said.

Others ventured guesses as to where the wedding would take place.

Madalyn Boguslaw, a wedding photographer, predicted venues in downtown KC. “I think that they would end up probably doing something at the Nelson or on the lawn of the Liberty Memorial,” Boguslaw said.

“It would be artsy and eclectic and unique, just like their engagement was.” Some Chiefs fans, like Will Collins, acknowledged the contributions Swift has already made to their home team — bringing more fans to the sport.

“You can tell by the market of Taylor Swift’s fans. Everyone who didn’t like football, now they like football,” he said. “You can’t deny that.”

Collins said he expects Swift to bring even more attention to Kansas City and added that he could see a Taylor Swift museum in the city’s future.

If you ask Alexa Larrabee, the Chiefs are important enough to Kelce that he may want the wedding at Arrowhead Stadium.

Although, Larrabee said she predicts Swift would prefer an intimate venue in the Crossroads. Regardless of where the wedding takes place, Larrabee said she anticipates Kansas City will be “proud and happy.”

“It’s the Midwest royal wedding,” she said. “That’s what it is.”
