Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels (l) and head coach Mike Vrabel (l) will need a new fullback.
The New England Patriots have cut 26-year-old offensive tackle Demontrey Jacobs according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Jacobs started 13 games for the Patriots in 2024 as both a left and right tackle.
The #Patriots are waiving OT Demontrey Jacobs, per source. He started 13 games last season and could be a waiver target.

With rosters being sliced on cutdown day in the NFL, Jacobs has lost his role as starter and now as a member of the roster after the Patriots drafted Will Campbell 4th overall in the 2025 Draft and signed Morgan Moses to a three-year, $24 million dollar contract in the offseason.
Jacobs was claimed off waivers by the Patriots last season when he was waived by the Denver Broncos, where he was originally signed as a rookie. He never played a game with Denver before becoming a staple on the offensive line with the Patriots in 2025.
He is now on waivers once again where he may be picked up as a depth piece or practice squad player for another team.
What Will the Patriots Do at Tackle This Season?
Campbell and Moses project to be New England’s starting tackles come week one, with Vederian Lowe as the next best option behind them. The Pats also have rookie Marcus Bryant, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 Draft.
Moses brings a strong veteran presence for rookies Campbell and Bryant. Moses, 34, has started 158 NFL games in his 11 year career, which includes stints with the Washington Commanders, New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens.
Expectations are high for Campbell, who was selected fourth overall in this years’ draft. Campbell was a standout at LSU for three seasons, starting 38 games as a Tiger. Reports from Patriots training camp indicate that he has met expectations and has settled into the New England offense well.
Patriots Need a Better Performance From O-Line to Protect Drake Maye
Second year quarterback Drake Maye has high expectations on him this season after he showed flashes of excellence in his first NFL season, despite a poor offensive line in front of him. Maye was sacked 34 times in 12 games last year. He threw 10 interceptions, many of which came as a result of heavy pressure that wasn’t well protected by a lackluster line.
Maye is also a very strong runner, and will need this years’ offensive line to create holes for him on draw plays.
The Patriots completely revamped their coaching staff with Mike Vrabel taking the reins as head coach with familiar face Josh McDaniels returning to his old stomping grounds as offensive coordinator. McDaniels was last with the Patriots in 2021 when he led then-rookie Mac Jones to an above-average rookie season.
McDaniels has a track record of elevating young quarterback’s games and the Patriots will need him to scheme smartly for Drake Maye and keep him more protected than he was last season.
