Drake Maye had 3 messages for Caleb Williams during postgame hug

It turns out that Drake Maye is a bit of a chatterbox on the field — both to his teammates and his opponents.

The New England Patriots quarterback was mic’d up during Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears. In a video posted Wednesday, Maye could be seen constantly encouraging teammates throughout the game.

But the most interesting exchange came between Maye and fellow rookie quarterback Caleb Williams when the two met for a postgame hug at midfield. The two clasped hands and hugged for only a few seconds, but Maye still managed to give three separate messages to the No. 1 overall pick.

“You’re that guy, man. Best of luck, man. Stay healthy, bro,” Maye said.

Williams returned the sentiment, responding, “Yup. Yeah, same to you. Stay healthy.”

The 19-3 victory in Chicago was a big step forward for a Patriots team that had been struggling, particularly for Maye. In addition to some big-time passes and timely runs, Maye also showed that he’s developing as a leader. The rookie quarterback spoke in front of the team after what he thought was a lackluster practice last Wednesday. It was a move that drew praise from teammates.

If the mic’d up footage is any indication, Maye is helping the Patriots with more than just his right arm and his legs. His voice is making an impact as well.
