Update: Recently-Released Vikings OL Might Shake Up Green Bay’s Lineup

Matt LaFleur

Logan Brown already knows what football life in Wisconsin feels like, and that’s part of what makes his newfound availability so interesting for the Green Bay Packers.

The former five-star tackle spent the first leg of his college career in Madison at the University of Wisconsin before transferring to Kansas.

The Minnesota Vikings signed him after he went undrafted in the 2025 draft, but he was released as part of the team’s first round of roster cuts. Some believe the Packers should sign him now that he’ll be hitting the open market.

“Logan Brown is a Packers type of OL,” Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda wrote on X on August 24. “He signed for $244,000 guaranteed as a UDFA this year. GB’s highest UDFA commitment was $165,000. This is one to watch.”

A Look Back at Brown’s Collegiate Career

Brown entered Wisconsin in 2019 as the crown jewel of the Badgers’ recruiting class, ranked as one of the top offensive tackles in the nation. Early injuries—including shoulder and biceps issues—slowed his start and forced a redshirt season.

Over the next two years, he worked into the rotation, appearing in all seven games of the team’s shortened 2020 campaign. He logged snaps in all 13 games in 2021 while also earning Academic All-Big Ten honors. In 2022, he started three of six games before an internal incident led to his dismissal and a decision to hit the transfer portal.

The move to Kansas proved to be a turning point. Brown saw only limited action in 2023, but by 2024 he had established himself as the Jayhawks’ starting right tackle. That season, he started 11 of 12 games and anchored a line that became one of the Big 12’s best units, paving the way for 211 rushing yards per game. Brown’s play earned him Second-Team All-Big 12 honors and an honorable mention for Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Brown’s athletic profile is what kept scouts intrigued. At 6-foot-6 and 311 pounds with nearly 34-inch arms, he tested extremely well at the combine: He ran a 5.18-second 40, had a 32-inch vertical, 26 bench reps and a 9.4-plus Relative Athletic Score (RAS). He didn’t allow a sack in 409 pass-blocking snaps in 2024, per PFF, showing the kind of foot speed and recovery ability that can translate to the NFL.

Why Should the Packers Sign OL Logan Brown?

For the Packers, adding Brown makes sense. Depth along the offensive line has already been tested this summer, and the front office has a long track record of targeting athletic linemen who can play in Matt LaFleur’s zone-heavy scheme. Brown’s mobility and length mirror what Green Bay looks for in swing tackles, giving Luke Butkus and Adam Stenavich a raw but moldable prospect to develop behind Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker.

Brown also represents the kind of low-cost, high-upside bet Green Bay likes to take. He’s only 24, comes with pedigree as a former five-star recruit and has proven he can adapt and rebound after setbacks. With the Packers historically unafraid to mine the cutdown market for long-term projects, Brown could slot onto the practice squad or the back end of the roster and grow into a reliable swing option.

A fresh start in Green Bay could be just the opportunity he needs.
