Jake Moody is lifted up by teammates after scoring the game-winning field goal against the Raiders in a preseason game on August 16, 2025.

San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody’s game-winning 59-yard field goal against the Las Vegas Raiders is one of the biggest moments of the NFL preseason thus far.

Nobody was more excited to see Moody make that kick than his San Francisco 49ers teammates.

49ers general manager John Lynch went on KNBR’s Murph and Markus show on Thursday morning August 21, 2025 to talk about the kick. He shared a very wholesome moment leading up to the kick on the 49ers sideline.

John Lynch on Jake Moody’s big game against the Raiders:

Kyle Juszczyk came to me in the 4th quarter and said ‘wouldn’t it be perfect for Moody to have a walk off?’. At that point we thought it would be a tie. Juice called his shot and that was really cool for Jake… The… pic.twitter.com/ObR1D4flvN

“Kyle Juszczyk came to me in the fourth quarter, and he goes, ‘Wouldn’t it be perfect for Moody to have a walk-off?’” Lynch said (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area). “At that point, we thought it might be a walk-off tie. Kind of uneventful, but that’s NFL preseason football. Juice called his shot and he got it.

After Moody made the kick, he was embraced by several of his 49ers teammates on both the field and the sideline. That reaction is telling, Lynch said.

“The reaction from our team, I think that tells you that those guys believe in Jake Moody,” Lynch said. “The guy’s been through it a little bit. Last year was rough, but he’s done a great job of moving forward.”

“It was a really cool moment to see our team rally around our guy. One of the fun preseason moments that I’ve had.”

Moody made 5-of-6 field goals against the Raiders. He made a 44-yarder to tie the game and then a would-be career long 59-yarder to win it. His only miss was from 53 yards.

Special Teams Coach Also Shouts Out Moody

In his media availability following 49ers practice on Thursday July 21, 2025, 49ers special teams coach Brant Boyer emphasized the importance of Moody’s kick for his own confidence.

“It could change his career,” Boyer said. “I think he showed a lot of character in that moment to bounce back.”

Moody missed 10 field goals over the course of last season. The 49ers brought in veteran kicker Greg Joseph to compete with Moody in training camp, but Moody ultimately won the job.

49ers fans are still divided on if Moody is the long term answer at kicker. It’s safe to say that 49ers faithful don’t share the same confidence that members of the 49ers do.

But, it’s still great to see the 49ers supporting Moody. Confidence and the mental side of the game are key to kicking. If Moody is ever going to become a great kicker, he will need the support of his teammates and coaches to do so.

Latest Skyy Moore Updates

On Wednesday August 20, 2025, the 49ers acquired another player who could factor into their special teams plans this season: WR Skyy Moore.

Moore has shown flashes of brilliance as a punt and kick returner over the years.

The 49ers got good news on Moore in his first practice with the team on Thursday August 21, 2025. Moore passed his physical and was able to even get in on team drills before practice ended.

His jersey number with the 49ers will be #6.

Moore is also coming off his roughest season in 2024 and looking for a career revival in 2025 with the 49ers. Perhaps he and Moody can both prove the doubters wrong.

49ers fans, do you believe in Jake Moody? How about Skyy Moore?
