The New York Mets have been consistently the big spender with no results over the past decade, and the 2024 season showed promise of a team that believed it could do it. This should be the only sign the Mets ownership and front office should need to go and bolster this line up as much as possible. As much as Pete Alonso’s return is important or going after Juan Soto, Blake Snell and Corbin Burnes, the Mets must look at the overall picture of building a strong line up and filling a need, and that need can be resolved by signing Willy Adames.
The Mets Already Have a Short Stop in Francisco Lindor
The Mets have an absolute stud in Francisco Lindor, who is a National League MVP Candidate for the 2024 season. So why would the New York Mets go after the former Milwaukee Brewer Shortstop?
Willy Adames would slot in very nicely at second baseman next to Lindor and make one of the best middle infield combos in the league. Adames would be an instant defensive and offensives upgrade from the current Jeff McNeil and Luisangel Acuna.
Would This Hurt the Mets Chemistry?
The answer is absolutely not. The New York Mets in 2024 became believers and gamers. They never counted themselves out and were playing their best ball when not just themselves were doing well, but when their teammates were. Winning and playing well becomes contagious in baseball, and Willy Adames is a proven winner and gamer coming from Milwaukee.
If you ever watched Willy Adames play, he always came up big to help the Brewers take the lead or need a jolt of energy to get them going the Brewers have been one of the most stable and consistent teams in the MLB over the past decade and a part of that has been the rise of Adames. He has never been the opportunity to be a face of the MLB but he produces day in and day out.
Willy Adames had a career year in 2024 in doubles, home runs, runs batted in and stolen bases. He is only getting better.
The New York Mets needs to look at the top of the top free agents, but right below is Willy Adames and he would be a great culture fit in the Big Apple and could help put the Mets over the edge and get past the Los Angeles Dodgers.
