Jordan Love thumb recovery timeline: How long Packers QB will be out after preseason injury | Sporting News United Kingdom

The Packers’ 2025 preseason journey has been less than ideal, and an injury to QB Jordan Love is only making matters worse.

Love, who is entering his third season as QB1 in Green Bay, is coming off a year in which he posted a 9-6 record as a starter and led the team to a third consecutive playoff appearance. In the 2025 preseason opener, Love suffered a left thumb injury that necessitated a procedure, the team announced.

While the injury is on Love’s non-throwing hand, a starting QB undergoing a procedure less than a month before the season begins is not a great development. Here’s more on what Love is dealing with and what it means for the Packers moving forward.

Love suffered a ligament injury during Green Bay’s preseason opener. Gutekunst’s announcement came one day after Love attempted to practice with the injured thumb heavily taped.

Love’s thumb injury is not expected to keep him out of any games, but it is his second injury of significance in as many seasons.

Late in last year’s season opener, Love suffered an MCL sprain in his left knee. The injury held Love out of Weeks 2 and 3 of the NFL season, and he returned to the field in Week 4.

Love also sustained an elbow injury in the Packers’ 2024 regular-season finale. While the injury ended his afternoon early, he was available for Green Bay’s divisional round matchup with the eventual champion Eagles.
