Update: Packers trade idea would send former fourth-round pick packing very soon

The Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room has become the subject of much consternation in the last few months, as the selection of Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft could be a sign that one of the holdovers from years gone by may end up getting traded away.

Romeo Doubs has stood out as perhaps the most likely trade candidate, thanks to the combination of his past performance and the faint likelihood of the possibility that Green Bay is going to hand him a long-term contract at the end of the season.

Doubs’ trade market likely remains healthy across the NFL, as his consistency and penchant for pulling off tough catches will make him desirable for any team in need of some juice on the outside. Brian Gutekunst may find a trade partner in a team that has been burned by former Packers before.

Doubs will have a market if he ends up being the big-name casualty of the Packers’ overstocking of the wide receiver room, and a team like the New York Jets might be willing to swing big on Doubs as a possible WR2 upgrade.

Romeo Doubs trade idea sends Packers WR to needy Jets

The Jets plan to be a run-first team in 2025, as they showed in their preseason win against Green Bay. However, Allen Lazard’s shoulder injury leaves Josh Reynolds and seldom-used Tyler Johnson as the next two wide receivers on the depth chart behind standout star Garrett Wilson.

The Jets’ aggressive trading in theAaron Rodgers era has left them bereft of a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but they do have four sixth-rounders at their disposal. Getting two picks from a team not projected to do a ton of winning could be adequate for a Packers team that likely does not plan to retain Doubs long-term.

Doubs would instantly be the unquestioned No. 2 wide receiver behind Wilson, and he could be in a position to get even more targets than much-ballyhooed rookie tight end Mason Taylor. Even with inferior quarterback play, Doubs could see an uptick in targets.

The Packers, meanwhile, open up even more targets for Golden and Watson (when he returns to full health) while avoiding the trap of burying Savion Williams on the depth chart. A Doubs trade has been discussed quite often, and those rumors likely won’t abate until the trade deadline passes.
