REPORT: Contract Drama Sparks Trade Pitch for Micah Parsons to AFC Contender

Dallas Cowboys edge Micah Parsons will set the edge rusher market.

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys continue to make questionable decisions with superstar Micah Parsons. After Parsons impressed at Penn State, he came into the NFL as one of the top edge rushers. Not only has he done so during his first four years with the Cowboys, posting 52.5 sacks, but now, the team doesn’t want to give him the money he deserves.

Will the Cowboys trade Micah Parsons?

As a result, some believe that the Dallas Cowboys will have to move on from Parsons over the next few weeks or months after he publicly requested a trade on social media. It remains uncertain if the Cowboys will live up to his request, as they don’t have to because he isn’t up for a contract just yet and could still keep him on the roster for another year.

Despite that, others believe the best idea would be for the Cowboys to either give him the money he’s looking for or move on from him. That includes NFL.com’s Eric Edholm, who recently proposed an intriguing trade idea between the Cowboys and Buffalo Bills.

The Bills are arguably the best team in the NFL entering the 2025-26 season, and could be one player away, like Parsons, from being the overwhelming favorites in the AFC.

“Strictly from a who-needs-him-most standpoint, there’s a strong case for the Bills to do everything in their power to at least make Dallas an offer… But the Bills need to have tunnel vision on winning a Super Bowl now, having come achingly close multiple times over the past several years. Joey Bosa was a big-name addition this offseason, and Greg Rousseau is a top-tier rusher, but adding Parsons would take this defense to the next level.

“When the Bills have needed a crucial defensive stop in several key games the past few years, especially in the playoffs, they have come up short more often than not. Adding one more elite defender could be the difference between a title and another missed opportunity for one,” he wrote. “Finding a way to get in on the Parsons bonanza won’t be easy, but if you’re GM Brandon Beane, don’t you have to at least try?”

Does a Micah Parsons trade to the Bills make sense?

If Parsons were to get traded by the Dallas Cowboys, many teams make sense for him. He’s a young star who’s arguably the best player in the NFL, and despite the contract likely being the highest in the league for a non-quarterback, he’s well worth it.

However, instead of trading him to a team like the Bills, the Cowboys should’ve figured this out long ago. When looking at the situation, Bill Barnwell of ESPN had some great thoughts, noting that the Cowboys put themselves in this position. He even suggested that the team could’ve had him for much cheaper a year ago or even a few months ago if they did the right thing.

“Again, even after failing to get the Parsons deal done early, the Cowboys could have been aggressive to act in spring 2025. Instead, they watched a series of star edge rushers secure increasingly more valuable contracts. Maxx Crosby signed an extension with the Raiders for $35.5 million per season. The Browns gave Garrett $40 million per year to change his mind and stay in Cleveland. And after a few months of half-hearted chatter about potentially going elsewhere, Watt agreed on a three-year, $123 million extension with the Steelers, which comes out to $41 million per season,” he wrote.
