Orioles may call up this surprising prospect soon (and it’s not Samuel Basallo)

At this point in the Baltimore Orioles’ season, their focus has shifted from winning games to developing players and prospects ahead of a postseason run in 2026. As such, there’s been even more demand for the team to call up some outfits promising rookies so they can get their first taste of major league action.
On Sunday, we got a rare look into what Mike Elias and the rest of the Orioles’ decision makers are thinking in regard to the team’s prospect capital, where he made it seem like we could see surging prospect Dylan Beavers soon.
Mike Elias all but confirms we’ll see Dylan Beavers in Baltimore this month
In an interview with The Baltimore Banner’s Danielle Allentuck, Elias spoke about the future for both Beavers and top prospect Samuel Basallo, both of whom are currently at Triple-A Norfolk.
“They are both having tremendous Triple-A seasons so that’s to be expected,” Elias told Allentuck when asked about the two prospect’s major league timelines. “I understand that, as we’ve had a lot of injuries and vacancies after the trade deadline, it kind of brings the conversation a little more to the forefront. But we sold at the deadline and as [interim manager Tony Mansolino has] been saying, we’re kind of in player development mode, so we don’t want to rush anything player development-wise because of a panic over major league need. We’re going to be ready for them when they’re ready.”
And, as Allentuck mentioned, they may feel that he’s more ready after Aug. 15, which would be the cut off point for both players to stay on the roster for the rest of the season while maintaining their rookie eligibility. Beavers, in particular, seems due for a big league call-up once we get to that point.
The 24-year-old is slashing .305/.422/.526 in 90 Triple-A games with 18 home runs, 50 RBI and 22 steals. At this point, Beavers doesn’t have anything left to prove in the minor leagues. On Monday, Baseball America listed him as the No. 83 prospect in baseball, marking the first time he’s been included in a top 100 list.

It’s not like the Orioles have an abundance of everyday outfielders standing in his way. Right now, their outfield picture consists of Dylan Carlson, Jordyn Adams and Greg Allen. Not exactly a group of world beaters.
Calling up a prospect like Beavers would be the best way to avoid a sense of apathy developing within the fan base (if it hasn’t happened already). There really isn’t any reason not to call him up at this point, and Elias seems to recognize that.
Basallo gets a ton of attention due to his status as Baltimore’s top prospect along with being one of the top prospects in the sport, but he also has to handle catching, which is no easy feat for any MLB player (plus he has Adley Rutschman in front of him). Beavers on the other hand, plays a defensive position that doesn’t have a huge jump and has destroyed Triple-A pitching. It’s time for him to get the call.
