Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur downplayed Jordan Love’s thumb injury assuring that he will be there when Week 1 of 2025 NFL season comes. For the next two pre-season games, he got Malik Willis for the role and the back up QB is determined to leave a mark.

Willis joined the team in 2024 and played just seven games, two of them as starter when Love went down with injury.
The two QBs are facing the same situation and Willis is excited to hold the forth for his QB1.
“I’m just excited for the opportunity and excited to go out a nd have some fun, play this game,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
Willis also said that his job in the next two pre-season games, which will be against the Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks, is to make sure that their offensive plans and schedules will be followed. They already lost their first one which was against the New York Jets.
“I mean, we’re all looking for an opportunity and be ready for each opportunity that we get, especially when it comes to just running the offense,” he continued.

“I feel like that’s what’s most important. It’s not about going out and doing anything crazy, it’s about making sure we stay on schedule and we continue to do what we can to make plays.”
Malik Willis gets vote of confidence from teammates
Willis was patient all this time as QB2. He has shown that in practices that even LaFleur was left impressed.
His running back teammate Josh Jacobs expressed confidence that he can deliver.

“We know what Malik is and what we have in Malik. Obviously for him, it’s just more so — a year into this system, more comfortable in the system,” Jacobs said. “He made a few throws today that were like, ‘Wow.’
“He’s naturally a guy that he puts in the work, so I think he’s going to succeed. We have the ultimate confidence in him.”
