Jordan Love to undergo minor surgery after preseason injury, but Packers get major relief on his recovery timeline originally appeared on A to Z Sports.
The Green Bay Packers are, once again, handling a Jordan Love injury. Happily for the team, though, this is a minor one. The quarterback injured the ligament of his left thumb on his last play against the New York Jets on Saturday, and will go through a minor surgery. He’s expected to be back at practice next week and will be ready to play against the Detroit Lions in Week 1.
“Jordan is having a little procedure done on his left thumb that he hurt in the game. We’ll put him out for a little while and hope to have him back at practice next week. He shouldn’t miss any regular season time,” general manager Brian Gutekunst revealed on Tuesday.

While there is a concern based on how Love’s 2024 season went due to injuries, this is a different circumstance. Because it’s something minor and Love will return during training camp, there should be no lingering effects in the regular season—Gutekunst hasn’t even ruled out him playing against the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason finale, even though head coach Matt LaFleur classified it as highly unlikely.
“So far, I think as he gets back, we’ll assess where he’s at,” Gutekunst mentioned. “I think he’ll be back at practice next week. How much he can do leading into the Seattle game, we’ll see. It’ll be day-to-day a little bit, but you never want any of these guys to be out because you want to be working as a team, and they all need the work. More importantly, he’ll be ready for Week 1, and that’s the most important thing.”
While it’s unfortunate that Jordan Love will miss his joint practice with the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday, starters were not expected to play on Saturday either way.
“I don’t want any of our guys to miss time,” Gutekunst added. “It’s important for all our guys to be out there. It certainly affects performance when you’re not out there, but at the same time, I think we’ll get them back in plenty of time. I don’t foresee this affecting them long-term at all.”
Jordan Love tried to extend a play on third down against the Jets, and the helmet of the defender hit his thumb. Love practiced on Monday to see where things were, and he was able to function. However, the procedure right now is the safest route, and this is what the Packers opted to do.
