The Mets’ shortstop has now been recognized as the best hitter at the position in consecutive seasons.
Francisco Lindor has been named the winner of the 2024 National League Silver Slugger Award at shortstop. It’s the fourth time he’s been awarded a Silver Slugger and the second consecutive season he’s won one with the Mets.
As we discussed when the finalists were announced, Lindor was arguably a shoe in for the Silver Slugger this season. He racked up a 137 wRC+, the best among shortstops in the National League. He posted his highest wOBA since 2018 (.363) with an xwOBA that suggested he was even better than that. For counting stats. he scored 100 runs and fell only one steal shy of 30-30. And he did all of that despite a putrid March and April, making the rest of his season that much more impressive.
Put simply, Lindor was was the engine that powered the Mets. He (rightfully) won’t win the NL MVP, but the Silver Slugger (and perhaps a big free agent signing) makes for a decent consolation prize.
