Report: Green Bay’s $220 Million Star Downplays Packers QB’s Throwing Only 84 Yards

The Packers third-year starter isn't' concerned with their slow start

Lambeau Field witnessed a massacre the Green Bay Packers lost their first preseason game, 30-10. The New York Jets starters looked like they didn’t miss a beat as the story of the game as the Packers offense failing to move the ball.

Four different quarterbacks combined for just 84 passing yards. The Packers lone touchdown came from Amar Johnson, one of the only bright spots in Green Bay’s preseason opener.

Jordan Love Isn’t Concerned By the Green Bay Packers Slow Start

Something that NFL fans love to do is overreact after one preseason game. The Packers suffered a dreadful loss to the Denver Broncos last year in the preseason, 27-2. Ultimately, they ended up just fine in the regular season.

Regardless, there wasn’t much for the Green Bay faithful to be excited for on Saturday night. Jordan Love played two drives, making only one completion. Drops were once again an issue as Romeo Doubs and Malik Heath didn’t make the $220 million man’s life any easier.

Other than Johnson, Packers rookie, Matthew Golden made his presence felt. He may have only had one catch for seven yards, but it was Love’s only completion of the game. A drop for Golden would’ve been detrimental, but he immediately received WR1 praise.

After the loss, Love took to the podium to speak about his performance, “We had two drives and there were definitely things we could’ve done a lot better on. Didn’t move the ball very well, didn’t put up any points. There’s going to be stuff we look back on and want to clean up moving forward, but obviously it was limited action.”

Packers QB Depth Questioned as Malik Willis Struggles

Last year, Malik Willis was the savior of this team. When Love went down with an injury, he led the team to victory on three separate occasions. He threw the most passes (9) out of the four Packers QB’s as he was sacked more (three times) than all of them combined.

Willis had a costly play inside the Jets 10-yard line, allowing for New York to expand their lead in the second quarter. One of the Packers two fumbles went against Willis, with the other on Mecole Hardman during a punt return.

The former Tennessee Titans 3rd round pick went 4/9 with 39 yards. That was a vast difference compared to Love’s 1/5 for 7 yards. Willis tried to take off on a few occasions, though he only recorded one carry for 5 yards.

Sean Clifford was the Packers 5th round pick in 2023. The Penn State graduate continues to earn preseason snaps, going 2/4 with 14 yards. At the end of the day, Taylor Elgersma proved to be the difference maker. The 23-year-old was nearly perfect, 3/4 for 24 yards.

With an average of six yards per attempt, the rookie was Green Bay’s most efficient QB. His 89.6 rating was by far the highest, a huge boost to the team’s 55.9 average.
