Dak Prescott is heading into one of the most pivotal seasons of his career—and possibly his last in a Dallas Cowboys uniform.
As training camp rolls on in Oxnard, one looming question continues to hang over the franchise: Will the Cowboys extend their franchise quarterback, or are they preparing for life after Dak?
Prescott, 32, is entering the final year of his contract with no extension in place, and sources close to the team indicate that ownership is in “wait-and-see mode”. The front office, led by Jerry Jones, is reportedly expecting nothing short of a deep playoff run before recommitting long-term.
“I’m focused on football—period,” Prescott told reporters. “Everything else will take care of itself.”
The Cowboys have made the postseason in three of the last four years but have consistently fallen short of the NFC Championship, fueling debate about Prescott’s long-term value. Despite putting up solid regular-season numbers, questions persist about his performance in big games.
With a talented supporting cast that includes CeeDee Lamb, Tony Pollard, and Micah Parsons, the pressure is on. And in Dallas, expectations are never low.
If Prescott delivers, he could secure one of the league’s richest contracts. If not, the Cowboys may be looking for a new face of the franchise come April 2026.
