New York Yankees Star Receives Awful Messages Amid ‘Nightmare’ Season

When the New York Yankees acquired Devin Williams last offseason, fans were convinced they finally found their next great closer. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case.

Williams was lights out for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2024, owning a 1.25 ERA with only one blown save. While we’re not exactly sure what’s going on behind the scenes, it’s very clear that he’s not comfortable in the Bronx. He currently has a 5.73 ERA with a 3-5 record and three blown saves.

On Friday night, Williams gave up three runs to the Houston Astros in the top of the 10th inning. That ultimately sunk the Yankees in the opening game of this series.

“I’m not making pitches,” Williams told reporters after the game. “It’s pretty simple. I stink right now.”

Despite the fact that Williams is well aware of his struggles on the mound, Yankees fans have been leaving nasty comments on his social media pages.

“I almost feel like Devin Williams didn’t get enough hate for his performance last night,” one fan said.

“I hate to single out one player or pitcher because obviously they are all doing their best. Nothing personal but as a Yankee fan please do not use Devin Williams in key spots anymore. Some guys just cannot do it in NY or he may be hurt whatever it is we need to win,” a second fan commented.

“I will be hate watching Devin Williams’ career forever after this year I promise,” a third fan declared

“Get out of New York,” an Instagram user commented on Williams’ page.

Although this season has been a nightmare for Williams, the Yankees aren’t ready to give up on him.

“We’ll try and find good spots for him to get him back to being a big part of the pen, which he should be,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

It’s possible Williams will turn things around, but the reality is he’s running out of time to do so. And if we’re being honest, the Yankees can’t really afford to let him figure it out since they’re losing ground in the American League playoff race.
