Update: Packers’ quiet IR move might matter more than fans think

The Green Bay Packers recently made a roster move that could eventually become a problem for the team.

On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers announced that they placed offensive lineman Travis Glover on season-ending injured reserve. Heading into his second season after being drafted in the sixth round in 2024, Glover was buried on the depth chart as the third-string right guard, so not many people paid attention to the move.

However, losing Glover for the season could end up being a bigger deal than it seems.

Glover appeared in seven games as a rookie, with the majority of his snaps coming on special teams.

Based on how things were unfolding in camp this year, the lineman was likely facing a similar playing situation in year two. Since he makes up the third unit, he wouldn’t see the field on offense for Green Bay this year in a perfect world. However, the NFL is far from a perfect world.

Packers place Travis Glover on injured reserve ending his season

In football, injuries are unfortunately a guarantee. While teams do everything they can to try and keep their players healthy, the best preparation for injuries is having adequate depth.

Glover provided that for Green Bay. Not only was he a solid depth lineman, he has versatility, as he has lined up at guard and tackle. That’s a valuable skill for a team to lean on when they encounter the inevitable injuries during a season.

Losing Glover is a significant hit to the depth of the offensive line as the team prepares for 2025. The Packers have essentially lost a depth guard and depth tackle.

Now, the team must figure out the best way to rebuild its depth. Will Green Bay just lean on the other linemen in the room and hope a couple of guys step up and prove to be solid backups, or will the team explore the free agency market and bring in someone else just to be sure?

The Packers must quickly figure out the best solution, as they have high expectations for the 2025 season.

In a league where the trade deadline is less a strategic pivot and more a high-stakes poker game fueled by hype and hot takes, San Francisco 49ers General Manager John Lynch just flipped the script. While contenders across the NFL were wheeling and dealing like it was Black Friday at a luxury car dealership, Lynch stared down the chaos, assessed the inflated prices, and… did nothing. Zilch. Nada. The Niners stood pat, preserving their draft capital and cap space like a fortress in a siege.

In a league built on contracts, egos, and statistics, the story of Sam Darnold’s quiet loyalty to the San Francisco 49ers stands out as something almost old-fashioned — a reminder that sometimes, football is still about love for the game and the people you share it with. When reports surfaced that the Niners were exploring trade options for their backup quarterback, few expected any kind of emotional twist. But behind closed doors in Santa Clara, what unfolded was a moment that revealed not just Darnold’s character, but also the kind of culture head coach Kyle Shanahan has cultivated in San Francisco. According to team insiders, Darnold — once a top-three draft pick and a player who has seen the harshest realities of NFL business — offered to take a pay cut if it meant he could remain part of this team, this locker room, this brotherhood.
