Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Saga Takes a $130 Million Turn, Insider Reveals

Dallas Cowboys edge Micah Parsons will set the edge rusher market.

Having players who don’t want to play for a team is never ideal in a professional sport, and it’s the situation that the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in. Micah Parsons, one of the top players in the league, has requested a trade and even stated that he doesn’t want to be with the organization any longer.

Hunter Cookston of the Sporting News recently examined the situation, noting that things are even worse than they might sound. He argued that because Jerry Jones doesn’t want to get Parsons’ agent involved, it’s tough to justify the decisions he’s made.

“The Dallas Cowboys are going through a tough situation with Micah Parsons, but it’s fair to say Jerry Jones brought this on himself. Parsons wanted his agent involved during contract negotiations, but Jones reportedly preferred to work out the deal directly between the two of them,” he wrote.

Cooks in later added the report from Jordan Schultz, who noted that the situation is “laughable.”

“The fact that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys believe they can negotiate a 9-figure extension with Micah Parsons without involving his agent says everything about the current state of the franchise. This entire situation is laughable from the Dallas side. It could’ve — and should’ve — been avoided. But instead, the Cowboys operated with pure arrogance, foolishness and stubbornness,” Schultz wrote.

Cowboys are in a challenging situation

With all that in mind, the Dallas Cowboys are in a situation that no other team in the NFL wants to deal with.

Not only could they have to get rid of a star player, but it could also change the trajectory of their franchise. Despite that, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox doesn’t think it’s the worst idea to move on from him.

Knox noted that while they have a history of waiting to make the right decisions, if Parsons is prepared to leave, they should try to see what they could get. The Cowboys could be looking at two first-round picks, at least, with Knox also noting that it could help them save money as they’d be paying three players more than $130 million per year.

“Dallas has a recent history of waiting until the last minute to reach contract agreements. This led to massive deals for wideout CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott—who now makes $5 million more per year than any other player. Parsons is now set to top the $41 million annually that T.J. Watt will make on his new deal.

“If Parsons is prepared to leave, the Cowboys should see what they can get in return. They’re unlikely to be serious Super Bowl contenders within the next few seasons, and paying more than $130 million per year for three players would be hard to justify if they aren’t. Trading Parsons would likely bring back a pair of first-round picks and more. The Cowboys owe it to themselves to see just how high his price tag might go,” Knox noted.

Will Jerry Jones extend Micah Parsons?

It isn’t an easy decision for the Dallas Cowboys, but at the end of the day, the goal should be for them to win football games.

Jones has been in the spotlight for many of the wrong reasons over the past few years regarding what he’s done with the organization, and this is just another moment where he continues to fail at doing what he needs to do.

The Cowboys are expected to win, but not having Parsons doesn’t help their chances.
