REPORT: Braves hit new level of rock bottom with latest waiver claim

Right now, the only thing on the Atlanta Braves’ mind is survival and playing spoiler. Unfortunately, that plan did not work out against the Brewers who swept them, but Atlanta did at least ruin the Marlins day on Thursday thanks to a massive game from Drake Baldwin. As for the surviving part, their latest roster addition is a reminder of just how bad things have gotten in 2025.

With Austin Riley out, the Braves’ infield situation is a mess. Nacho Alvarez Jr. is trying his best, but when you are giving real big league plate appearances to guys like Nick Allen and Jonathan Ornelas, putting together a lineup that scares anyone is pretty tough to say the least.

In their search of players with a pulse, Atlanta decided to claim Vidal Brujan off of waivers from the Orioles.

Braves claim Vidal Brujan off of waivers for some reason

So the good news here is that Brujan is technically capable of playing multiple positions in the field and Atlanta didn’t have to clear space on their 40-man roster to scoop Brujan up. Given how some of the Braves’ other roster bandaids have played, there are worse things than giving Brujan a shot.

The bad news is that Brujan doesn’t seem to have any skill that one would want in a baseball player other than the “ability” to play multiple positions. Brujan does not grade out well as a defender at any of the positions he plays, he is a career .193 hitter across nearly 600 plate appearances in the majors, and he already got cast aside by the Cubs and Orioles this season.

Again, it doesn’t really matter how Atlanta gets to the finish line this season so long as they make it. It is likely they wouldn’t make this move if there wasn’t a roster move coming to accompany it, so it is at least worth monitoring the situation. At this point, fans just have to hope that no one else gets hurt and that the Braves manage to get the #1 overall pick in the 2026 draft while being mildly entertaining along the way. Unfortunately, Brujan isn’t likely to move the needle at all unless losing is the objective.
