The SF Giants trimmed minor league headcount earlier this month. According to the team’s transaction log, a pair of veteran minor leaguers in Raymond Burgos and Devin Mann were released.

The Giants also released a handful of minor leaguers at the end of July. Elian Rayo, Javier Francisco, and Elijah Pleasants were released from the San Jose Giants. C.J. Widger and Guillermo Williamson were released from the Eugene Emeralds, and Mat Olsen was released from the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
This was done before the influx of players added at the trade deadline. They also have several minor leaguers beginning rehab assignments. This includes R.J. Dabovich, Ryan Murphy, and Nate Furman. As is often the case, headcount in the minors tends to be right at the 165-player limit near the end of the season.
The Giants brought back Raymond Burgos on a minor league deal in the offseason, marking his third straight year with the organization. That type of continuity for minor leaguers is pretty rare. Burgos also pitched briefly with the Giants in 2024.
Burgos’ deal included a camp invite, and he was one of many left-handed pitchers on non-roster deals in spring training.
Burgos did not make the club out of camp and was assigned to the Sacramento River Cats to begin the year. He also had a brief stint with Richmond. Overall, the 26-year-old pitcher posted a 6.68 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 12 walks split across 32.1 innings.
On the other hand, Devin Mann joined the organization earlier this season to add infield depth in the upper minors. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Louisville. Mann was college teammates with Logan Wyatt and Tyler Fitzgerald that season. Wyatt and Fitzgerald were selected by the Giants in the second round and fourth round, respectively, of the following draft in 2019.
Mann spent the past couple of seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization before joining San Francisco. The right-handed bat split time with Sacramento and Richmond. He hit .224/.346/.336 with four home runs, 28 RBI, and 33 runs in 267 combined plate appearances.
