Anthony, who was named the top prospect in baseball last September, has already emerged as a legitimate playmaker for Boston, owning a .276 batting average with two homers and 19 RBI. On Wednesday, the Red Sox rewarded Anthony with an eight-year, $130 million contract extension. They announced the signing before their game against the Kansas City Royals.

“I couldn’t think of a better city to play in [for] the next eight to nine years of my life,” Anthony said. “And I’m super excited. I want to thank all the fans who show up every day and continue to support us regardless of the outcome. It’s really just a special place to play and a special place to show up every single day. I couldn’t be more excited for this and couldn’t be more thankful for everyone in this room and everyone who’s helped me get here today.”

Anthony’s sister, Lia, shared an Instagram post about his contract extension along with a short but sweet message.

“So beyond proud of you,” Lia wrote on her Instagram Story.

Anthony’s sister has become quite popular in the MLB world. She bursted onto the scene during her brother’s second career game as a member of the Red Sox.

After Anthony recorded the first hit of his MLB career, the TV cameras were fixated on his sister. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for fans to discover her Instagram account.

As of now, Anthony’s sister has around 37,200 followers.

Back in June, the rookie outfielder said his family has been with him “every step” during his journey to the MLB. We doubt he minds sharing the spotlight with his sister.

Besides, Anthony praised his Red Sox teammates immediately after signing his contract extension Wednesday.

“It’s super exciting when you talk about how young we are and the mix that we have of the great veteran guys that we have,” Anthony said, via MLB.com. “So there’s a lot to be excited about … and knowing that in this process was a big reason as to why I wanted to stay here and be with those guys and grow with those guys.”

The Red Sox will return to action Friday night against the San Diego Padres. We’ll see if Anthony continues his great rookie season.
