The San Francisco 49ers got back on the practice field on Monday at their SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, but afterward, head coach Kyle Shanahan had a pair of unfortunate injury updates for the media.
Shanahan told those in attendance that running back Isaac Guerendo will miss “a few weeks” due to a shoulder injury, while defensive tackle Kevin Givens will be out “a while” with a pec.

Guerendo was the 49ers’ fourth-round pick (No. 129 overall) in the 2024 NFL draft following a collegiate career split between Wisconsin and Louisville. As a rookie, he appeared in 16 games and rushed for 420 yards and four touchdowns on 5.0 yards per attempt and caught 15 passes for another 152 yards.
The 25-year-old entered training camp as the backup running back to Christian McCaffrey and may have been one of the team’s top options as a kick returner after returning six kicks for 163 yards in 2024. Now, they’ll rely on Ameer Abdullah, Patrick Taylor Jr., fifth-round rookie Jordan James and undrafted rookie Corey Kiner.
Givens originally signed with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2019. Over his six years in the NFL, he’s appeared in 65 games and started 14 while recording 90 tackles (18 for a loss), eight sacks, three passes defensed, two fumbles recovered and one forced fumble.
The 28-year-old was expected to compete for a starting spot in the middle of the 49ers’ defensive line, but if he misses significant time, that just gives more opportunities to rookies Alfred Collins and C.J. West, who are also in the mix to start next to Jordan Elliott in 2025.
